LA Fitness and the Shops at Rossmoor filed a new application for essentially the same project that was withdrawn last fall for a 37,000 square-foot health club to be built in the parking are behind Sprouts.
The draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) has been made available for public review. The draft EIR can be found here.
Comments are being accepted by the City of Seal Beach until Monday April 24.
This project was withdrawn last fall before the City Council could have an official vote on the project. The project was withdrawn at least partially due to public pressure based on concerns about traffic in the Shops center and parking and traffic impacts on the nearby Rossmoor streets.
Those same concerns are being raised with this resubmission as none of them have been addressed in the proposal.
Some Rossmoor and Seal Beach Residents have formed the non-profit Coalition Against LA Fitness or CALAF to create a unified voice opposing the fitness club development project. You can find out more about CALAF here on their website.
The RHA filed our comments in a letter to the City of Seal Beach. You can read our letter here.
There are a series of Town Hall Meetings scheduled for later this month. These are meetings scheduled by the Shops at Rossmoor as they are seeking support for the project and the EIR.
